A Message from Ms. Claire in Elementary

Hello SWMA families-

I’m not sure why I haven’t added a note in this newsletter till now, I guess I really thought I didn’t have much to add as Catherine’s update is so thorough. But the more I thought about it…..wheels started to spin and my thoughts made it to paper!

A Message from Ms. Devin in Latin

In Latin the children are beginning the discovery of a new and exciting language and ancient culture! In Lower Elementary the students have begun learning about the names of different animals. They have also begun to learn how to count using the words for Latin numbers as well as Roman numerals.

A Message from Mr. David in Upper Elementary

“Follow the child”, what does that mean? There are many misconceptions about Montessori education. “It is super loose and the kids get to do whatever they want”... “It's too regimented and the kids are dogged by structure!” Which is it? The only way to truly learn is to find out for yourself.

Supplemental Science with Tracy Baranowski

In most classrooms across America, there’s not much science being taught. There are many reasons for this situation. For one thing, in the early elementary years, so much time is spent on reading and literacy development, there’s little time left for anything else. To make science hands-on and interactive, it takes time and money to research and gather
materials. How many teachers and parents have time for that?
